Presentation
For those who read my bio (about), you already know a little bit about me. My name is Abby, I am 21 years old and I live in France. I come from a small town in the south suburb of Paris and I have been studying in UK for almost four years. I am a law student at the University of Essex.
Why the UK?
Studying abroad was for me a dream that I had since I was 7 years old. I always felt attracted the English language and I wanted to study in an English-speaking country.
I got comforted in this idea when I left my town to go to boarding school in Paris. Maybe I will talk about this experience more in details in another post, but I realized how much I wanted to leave France because I did not like the system at all!
In the last two years of High School, we have to make a choice to weather we want to be in the scientific branch, economy and gestion branch or the literature one. They will then, determine your upper studies. If you go in literature branch, for instance, you will not be able to be a doctor or an engineer. I don’t really know for the other countries, but the French system seems to favorize the scientific branch. This is the only one that opens the doors to almost any types of studies. Also, the teachers have the last say on if you can or not go to the branch you want. So, they pretty much determine your all future!
After I had my A levels, I applied in both French and UK Universities. It was amazing to see that all my UK choices were accepted because I really did not see myself studying in France anymore.
Why Law?
I am now a law student in my last year. I started with a foundation year which helped me to familiarize myself with the University and the different activities that were there. I also met many people, made different friendship and, was able to know the basis of law.
I choose law studies because I like the proximity with people and being able to help them. Law is also a branch that can lead to many different jobs and opportunity. In fact, we can study law but not necessarily become a judge or a lawyer!
